CABARRU$ COUNTY
PLANNING DEPARTMENT

Post Office Box 707

CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA 28025

MEMORANDUM

TO: Charles D. McGinnis/County Manager
JO
FROM: James F. Owens/Planning Director~~ ~\~

DATE: February 25, 1988

SUBJECT: Duplicate Quay Roads - Road Name Changes

We have received a road name change petition from residents on Quay/Old Holland Road,
on both sides of 1-85 requesting a road name change. The petition is requesting
that Old Holland Road in Cabarrus County revert back to Quay Road. The county also
has a Quay Road off of Robinson Church Road.

The residents on Quay/Old Holland Road have continuing problems with emergency
vehicles, UPS and other deliveries because the signs visible in Mecklenburg County
on Union School Road and Odell School Road (Mecklen6urg name) indicate Quay Road,
yet the road name changes several hundred feet down from those intersections to
Old Holland Road at the Cabarrus County line.

The Quay Road off Robinson Church Road, at an earlier date, was called Quay Dairy
Road.

We would like to schedule public hearings for these two road name changes and
recommend:

(1) Quay/Old Holland Road to Quay Road

(2) Quay Road to Quay Dairy Road (back to its former name)

It appears that this would be the easiest solution to this duplicate road name
problem and Lt. Howard Scarboro with the Communication Division of the Sheriff's
Department is in agreement with this solution, Therefore, we would like a public
hearing date set at the earliest convenient time to handle this problem.

Thank you for your attention regarding this matter.
