CODDLE CREEK RESERVOIR

CABARRUS COUNTY

ENGINEERING REPORT ON SPILLWAY ALTERNATIVES

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

I. GENERAL

Based on subsurface conditions discovered during the geotechnical inves-
tigations by Law Engineering, Inc., it was determined that the principal
spillway should be located as far to the east as possible so that the
spillway would be founded in natural undisturbed material. Four alterna-
tive spillway alignments were evaluated and preliminary cost estimates
developed. These are su~narized below:

Alternative Estimated Construction Cost
I $6,960,800
2 $6,562,600
3 $7,720,400
4 $7~677,000

II. SELECTED ALTERNATIVES

Alternates 3 and 4 were eliminated due to the higher construction costs
associated with each. Alternatives i and 2 were further evaluated to
refine the cost estimates and optimize the selection. A brief
description of each follows:

ALTERNATIVE 1 - 300-FOOT GATED CREST AT ELEVATION 646 PLUS
FOOT EMERGENCY SPILLWAY iT 655. FUSE-PLUGGED TO ELEVATION 652.
(SEE FIGURE 1)

(
