,%~x,'~" CABARRUS COUNTY ~~/
745 Cabarrus Avenue, W.
~/ CONCORD NORTH CAROLINA 28025

TO: 'Advisory Board Members
Cabarrus County Commissioners
Cabarrus EMS
FROM: B. [t. Mabrey, Sr. ~/~'
SUBJECT: May 17, 1988 Meeting of Advisory Board Minutes
DATE: May 31, 1988

The Advisory Board met on May l?, 1988 at the Emergency Services office
with 12 members present. The following items were discussed:
1 - North East Cabarrus has'completed all required training and paperwork. Program was unanimously approved.
2 - Call reports were reviewed. All reports were submitted in a timely
manner with the exception of Pitts VFD. Pitts' reports were not
received. One hundred calls have been answered since the last meeting.
The problem areas, from the call repOrts, discussed were: Initials only
were used to identify responders, vital signs were not documented with
times, persons that refused treatment were not always required to sign
to document refusal and several call reports referred to the patient's
color in other than a medical context, kli of these points were discussed
and recommendations were made.
3 - The rescue persons present discussed problems with delays in dispatch of
rescue units. Incidents tha~ have occured recently on Highway 24/27~
Miami Church goad and Poplar Tent Road were discussed. When medical re-
spenders or law enforcement arrive at an accident scene and find persons
entrapped, Rescue should be dispatched promptly. Bruce Lofty of Cabarrus
Rescue stated that their units could repond to most parts of Cabarrus County
within 7 - 9 minutes.
4 - Two areas of radio use were discussed. The practice of activating ~he
pager tones to 10-22 (terminate) calls was discussed. It was a consensus
that responders don't reset pagers until completion of a call so the tones
are not necessary- The Sheriff stated that he was only concerned that
responders receive proper notification of call termination. Ben Mabrey
sta~ed that there had been unauthorized communications on the ambulance
frequency, it is to be used only on first responder calls for first re-
spender business. It is not to be used to call in wrecks or for idle
conversation.
