May 31, 1988

James W, Lentz, Chairman
Cabarrus County Commissioners
P. O. Box 707
Concord, North Carolina 28025

Dear Mr. hentz:

Matting in official session on May 26, 1988, the Cabarrus County
Board of Health considered the following bids for one (i) crawler
tractor for the Sanitary Landfill:

Equipment Company Price

Fiatallts FD 20 g.F. Craven Company $158,428.55
Internation Dresser TD-20G N.C. Equipment Company $167,394.15
Caterpillar D7}t Carolina Tractor & $174,594.00
Equipment Company

After discussion, the Board 'of Health voted unanimously to recommend
the purchase of the Caterpillar DTH due to exceptional service and
reliability of Caterpillar aquipment in use at the landfill and due
to a much higher resale value. For example, accordiug to the Last
Bid published by International Equipment Exchange and Auction
Reports, the resale value of comparably equipped five year old
crawler tractors is as follows:

Resale Value

Flathllis FD-20 $ 30,500
Dresser YD-20E $ 36,500
CAT DTG $ 62,500

Attached are budget amendments necessary to transfer enough monies to
accomplish purchasing the dozer without an additional appropriation
of county monies.

Sincerely,

W~lliam P.
