KIMBALL
ASSOCIATES, P.A.

January 5, 1987

Sheriff Robert Canaday
Cabarrus County Sheriff's Dept.
P.O. Box 525
Concord, NC 28025

RE: Proposed Cabarrus County
Jail Addition

Dear Sheriff Canaday:

Enclosed please find for your review one set of drawings.
Please ascertain that the appropriate square footages have been
provided for the individual spaces, and the interior circulation
patterns meet your needs, in order that work on related
HVAC/plumbing/electrical drawings may progress.

Note that it was necessary to increase the central second
floor corridor to 8'-0" wide to comply w~th the North Carolina
Building Code, Section 1104.

Also note that another option which exists concerning the
security windows is to utilize obscure glazing in lieu of clear
glazing, and a security screen at the interior side in lieu of
the louvered stainless steel plate (see attached "North Carolina
Minimum Standards for the Operation of Local Confinement
Facilities"). Please advise our office of your thoughts on this
item.

Could you inform our office if your existing cell/dayroom
areas presently possess an adequate level of lighting, or if a
greater level of lighting will be required in the new
cell/dayroom areas,

DZ70102.4

ARCHITEC?$
ENGINEERS
