Lentz, Chairman
Cabarrus Coonty Board of Commissioners
P. O. Box 664
Concord, NC 28025

Dear Hr. bentz:

On last Wednesday, we were invited to meet with the Carolinas Counties
Coalition to discuss the possible development of a regional gross county
produet model with county-specific data for Cabarrus County and the other
Counties in this region. The County Commission Chairmen who were present at
the meeting were supportive of the development of this type of data base.
They suggested that the next step would be for us to meet with the County
Commissioners of each County in this area to provide more information about
this data base and its benefits. We would welca~e an opportunity to discuss
this project with you and the other members of the Cabarrus County Board of
Commissioners.

We hope to have this economic model operational by either the Fall of
1987 or the Spring of 1988. To do so, we will have to get started on it by
this summer. To give us enough lead time to schedule the faculty to work on
it this summer, we will need to know by at least March l, 1987 whether
Cabarrus County is interested in participating in the project. It is our
hope that all of the Counties will take advantage of this opportunity to work
together on this project.

We believe that the data provided by this model will be of considerable
assistance to the economic development and planning activities of this region.
It should put us ahead of many regions of the country which do not have this
economic data base.
