Lentz, Chairman
Cabarrus County Board o£ Commissioners
P. O. Sox 664
Concord, NC 28025

Dear Hr. Lentz:

On last Wednesday, we were Invited to meet with the Carolinas Counties
Coalition to discuss the possible development o~ a regional gross county
product model with eounty-speei£1e data rot Cabarrus Co~mty and the other
Counties tn this region. The County Commission Chairmen who were present at
the meeting were supportive of the development o~ this type o~ data base,
They suggested that the next step would be for us to meet ~lth the County
Commissioners oE each County in this area to provide more in~ormation about
this data base and lis benefits. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss
this project with you and the other members o£ the Cabarru$ County Board of
Commissioners.

We hope to have this economio model operational by either the Fall of
1987 or the Spring o£ 1988. To do so, we will have to get started on it by
this summer. To give us enough lead time to schedule the faculty to work on
it this summer, we will need to know by at least March 1, 1987 whether
Cabarrus County is interested in participating in the project. It is Our
hope that all of the Counties wilZ take advantage or this opportunity to work
together on this project.

~e believe that the data provided by this model will be o~ considerable
assistance to the economio development and planning aetl~ities of this region.
It should put us ahead of many regions of the country which do not have this
economic data base,
