POST oFFIcE BOX 1595
I~O~TAN TECHNICAL COLLEGE
FebruarY 26, 1987

Mr. Charles McGinnis
County Manager
Cabarrus County
Court House - PO Box 707
Concord, NC 28025

Dear Charles:

Our organization is having considerable difficulty in operating the Corban
and Carver Centers on the allocation of $53,158 for Fiscal Year 1986-1987. The
costs of janitors, security guards, heating, power, insurance, telephone, supplies,
and miscellaneous repairs are simply too great to operate two facilities which
total over 15,000 square feet.

These two facilities are presently operated year round at a usage rate of
69 hours per week (8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 8:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. on Friday). Sixty-eight (68) classes were conducted at Corban and 33
classes at Carver during the Fall Quarter. Nine hundred and eighteen (918) adults
enrolled for these courses.

As you know, our needs were much lower some years ago. At that time, the
only facility operated was the small Cannon Mills medical facility above the Gem
Theatre. Cannon Mills paid for virtually everything, and we only needed $600 per
year to pay for miscellaneous costs not assumed by Cannon Mills.

The situation is far different today. Both the Corban and Carver Centers
cannot be operated on $53,158. Your cooperation in securing an additional $1§,000
to assure that we will have funds to meet all our liabilities will be greatly
appreciated.

Your continued support is sincerely appreciated.
Sincerely,

R. L. Br*wnell
President

RLB:dsp

cc: Phil Smith
