Mr. James W. Lentz
Chairman, Cabarrus County
Board of Commissioners
Post Office Box 707
Concord, North Carolina 28026-0707

Dear Jim:

I appreciate receiving your letter of May 20
and the resolution that was passed by your Bo~rd. I
have discussed this matter with Phil Kirk who, as you
know, is the Governor's No. 1 assistant and adviser.

Phil understands the situation and indicated he
would see what he could do about saving the buildings
until some decision is made regarding the Stonewall
Jackson School property.

Frankly, the State doesn't want the financial
responsibility of preserving these buildings as there
are a number of other pressuring money needs. It would
be good if some local group or the County could bear
the financial need.

In any event, I will do what I can.

hn$on~ Jr.

JCJjr/nw
