Box 664 <br /> Concord, North Carolina 28025 <br /> <br /> Dear James: <br /> <br /> Recently I n~t with Mary Ben, I, Board Cllairman of Lancaster County, South <br /> Carolina and Peggy Upchurch, Vice Chairman of York County, South Carolina, to <br /> discuss plans for a NC/SC Counties Coalition Conference. Tentative plans are <br /> that this b~ a one (1} day event on Wednesday, Mitrch 9, 1988. The Conference <br /> will be held at the elegabt new Speedway Club at the Charlotte Notor S~ay <br /> in Cabar~us County. Unlike our quarterly coalition m~etings, this would be a <br /> meeting of all County Cc~mis~ioners and (appropriate and/or interested) staff <br /> not just the Chairmen and County Managers. <br /> <br /> The Conference would involve an opening general session, workshops on various <br /> topics, and a closing general session. Lunch and an evening reception will <br /> also be included. We hope to have the Governors of North Carolina and South <br /> Carolina in attendance at the reception. Co~missioners' spouses will also be <br /> invited. A spouses' day program will be planned potentially consisting of a <br /> shopping ~our and tours of the ~lint Museum~ Discovery Place, or other points <br /> of interest. <br /> <br /> A small registration fee will be charged, however tl~e amount is unknow~ at <br /> this tim~. <br /> <br /> We're asking each County to con~.act their Chamber of Con~erce to solicit <br /> financial suppor~ of otlr conference and involvement as workshop participants. <br /> We specifically seek their support for t~lderwriting the reception. <br /> <br /> Please c~mplete and retur~ the attached workshop interest sheet by October 16, <br /> 1987. Let us knc~¢ if you would like to see other topics addressed, or if you <br /> disagree with any of these topics. <br /> <br /> More speoific details will be forwarded to you at a later date.
