Lentz <br /> Chair~nan, Cabarrus County <br /> PO Box 664 <br /> Concord, NC 28025 <br /> <br /> Dear Mr. Lentz: <br /> <br /> SUBJECT: SERVICE DELIVERY AREA DESIGNATION <br /> <br /> As you may recall, two year8 ago the North Carolina Job Treining <br /> Partnership Act (JTPA) network sndertook a major restructuring, <br /> decreasing tile size of the Rural Service Delivery Area for which the <br /> Governor has responsibility, and increasing the number of local service <br /> delivery areas onder the control and management of local elected <br /> officials. This process resulted in the establishment of twenty-six <br /> service delivery areas in North Carolina. <br /> <br /> We are plea:~ed with the progress and general ntatus the Job Training <br /> Partnership Act syste~a has achieved during the past two years. However, <br /> some areas have indicated an interest in service delivery orca changes to <br /> better meet local needs and address local problems. Therefore, the <br /> Governor ]las decided to accept formal petitions for service delivery area <br /> status. <br /> <br /> The Job Training Partnership Act allows that no ~ore often than <br /> every two years, the Covernor may redesignate the service delivery areas <br /> for the Job Training Partnership Act Program (JTPA). Any new designation <br /> will commence for Program Year 1988 (July 1, 1988 through 0uae 30, 1989). <br /> To accomplish this, you as the chief elected official (CEO) need to <br /> decide with the governing body, what service delivery area designation is <br /> best for your jurisdiction.
