[ !

CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA

H E H 0 -' '

TO: Board of Commissioners
FROH: Charles D. NcGinuis
DATE: January 30~ 1986

Over a period of years the employees of Cabarrus County have made
requests to repurchase retiremeut credits for previously voluntarily
withdrawn retirement system benefits. Additionally, there have been
requests from employees to purchase credit for military service in
the retirement system. These provisions were optional provisions
to the retirement system which had to be approved by the Board of
County Commissioners by resolution at the time they established the
-- retirement system for local government employees. Cabarrus County
at that time did not elect to adopt these resolutions and therefore
no employee that had made such a request vas eliglble to buy back
previously voluntarily ~ithdra~n retirement benefits and/or to
purchase retirement credits for military service.

I recommend to the County that the Board of County Commissioners
adopt by resolution enclosed this aiditional benefit to employees
in the Local Government Retirement System.
