Box 707 <br /> Concord, NC 28025 <br /> <br /> Dear Mr. McGinnis: <br /> <br /> Under the sponsorship of the Council of Governments and in coordination with <br /> the Employment Security Commission, your technical college is read), to create <br /> a center for recruiting, assessing, and placing disadvantaged and unemployed <br /> adults in Cabarrus County. Nearly S50,000 of federal money (JTPA funds) <br /> finally has been approved to support this center. We have been working'for <br /> many months to forge our way through a sea of federal red tape, and recently <br /> received final approval. <br /> <br /> The assessment center will be established in a.portion:of the Carver Annex not <br /> used by Kannapolis City Schools. Our plans have been coordinated with Harold <br /> Nash and Dr. Bradshaw. <br /> <br /> Now that we have received final approval, we must move quickly to spend the <br /> _2i~Z~StO._of JTPA money necessa~_~Ey~to f~vations and repairs to the Carver <br /> Annex so we-'lvi-l~-~c~-~b~--tr~instaTT-the $21,947 worth of equipment necessary <br /> to begin operations. Planned alterations will include temporary walls to <br /> provide office space, a handicapped ramp, carpeting, heating and air condition- <br /> ing and telephone service. Our JTPA funds must be spent before the end of the <br /> fiscal year, so we are anxious to begin renovations as quickly as possible. <br /> We understand that the Cabarrus Commissioners hold the lease to the Carver <br /> Annex, and ,~e need their official approval before we can begin the JTPA-funded <br /> renovations.
