MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />TO: County Managers 5:00P.M. EDST <br />FROM: C. Ronald Aycock, Executive Director <br />DATE: July 3, 1986 <br />SUBJECT: Additional ½¢ Sales Tax <br /> <br />Since the mailing of today's Legislative Bulletin the House of <br />Representatives voted today to concur in the Senate amendments to <br />House Bill 1542 authorizing counties to enact an additional ½¢ local <br />option sales tax. The bill, having passed both Houses, is expected to <br />be officially ratified on Monday evening, July 7, when it is signed by <br />the Speaker of the House and the Lieutenant Governor. (See Legislative <br />Bulletins %6 and %7 for details.) <br /> <br />We know that many counties are anxious to begin the process for <br />enactment, therefore, please find attached the following information. <br /> <br />1). Sample resolutions'for enactment. Please-note that we have left <br /> blanks in the spaces for Ratified Chapter number ~nd for <br /> effective date.of, ratification~:~We.~wil~,'not.know-these'until' ~'~ <br /> Tuesday, July 8. ' : <br /> <br />2). Summary of procedures for implementation. <br /> <br />Commencement of the legal process necessary to enact the tax should not <br />begin until the bill has been actually ratified. Many counties will <br />be meeting on Monday, July 7. If your county desires to begin the <br />process as early as possible, you may want to consider either <br />recessing your first Monday meeting or calling a special meeting for <br />later in the week.
