CABARRUS COUNTY
Post Office Box ?O?
CONCORD. NORTH CAROLINA

MF~tORANDUM

TO: Mr. Charles McGinnis/ County Manager
FROM: Walter Odell/ County Engineer ~(~W,
DATE: July 15,1986

SUBJECT: AMMENDMENT OF WATER POLICY

Several customers have purchased water connections for the sole
purpose of fire protection (sprinklers) inside of commerical or
industrial buildings. This water is not used except during a
fire or for testing. Currently there is no rate for this use
except on the normal meter schedule. The normal minimum size
connection is 6" which carries a monthly charge of $221.70 for
200,000 gallons of water. In reality 200 gallons per month
would not be normally used.

I would like to recommend that a stand-by charge be adopted for
fire line service that would be the same as the standard 3/4"
non residential usage rate. This would be a minimum of $11.20
per month which would allow for 200 gallons of water.

If agreeable with you, the ammendment to the poli~y would have
to be approved by both boards.
