CABARRUS COUNTY
PLANNING DEPARTMENT
Post Office Box 707

CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA 28025

14EMOP, ANOUM

TO: CABARRUS COUNTY PLANNING BOARD MEMBERS
FROM: Thomas B. Robinson/Planning Director } a>y,~
DATE: August ll, 1986
SUBJECT: Protection of Coddle Creek and Dutch Buffalo Creek Watersheds

Recently the State of North Carolina changed the way it classifies surface water
supplies. Coddle Creek and Dutch Buffalo Creek watersheds had been classified
· A-II. They are now classified WS-III.

As part of our work on the Comprehensive Land Develo~nent'Plan, we have detemined
that about 65% of the Coddle Creek watershed and 35% of the Dutch Buffalo Creek
watersheds lie in adjoining counties, We need to decide if water in these watersheds
is important enough to protect, and if so, devise a plan for such purpose. The
newstate water supply classification system offers a way to develop such a plan.
1 am enclosing information on the new water supply classifications and an overview
of water resources available in Cabarrus County.

Please review this material and be ready to discuss it aK our August 13, 19B6
meeting. Thanks.

Enclosures

ITEt4 Nb*IBER 5
