Children were entertained in July by two storytellers. <br /> Phil Riner, a Kannapolis native, captivated children With his <br /> southern tales and his many voices. Saunie Wood, a resident of <br /> Davidson, delighted children with stories she's collected while <br /> visiting the British Isles. <br /> <br /> A summer of reading and "exercising your mind" came to an end on <br /> August 2 when a crowd of 130 gathered on the library patio'for ice <br /> cream (a treat from the Friends of the Library), a visit from <br /> Scooby Doo, and a karate demonstration. Youngsters as well as <br /> some young-at-heart folks enjoyed sing-a-longs, magic tricks, stories, <br /> and the antics of Skipper the parrot. It was a pleasant ending to <br /> a fun-filled summer. <br /> <br /> Myla Barnhardt exhibited some of our story program ideas at a work- <br /> shop sponsored by the Children's Services section of the State <br /> Library. She came home with lots of ideas and programs to fill our <br /> fall calendar. The children's department is planning a workshop <br /> for daycare employees to orient them to the library and its resources, <br /> a program for latchkey children, and some special activities for <br /> the school-age child, in addition to the preschool story time. <br /> Children came in on the first day of school with homework. Looks <br /> like a busy season! <br /> <br /> COMPUTERS <br /> <br /> The Apple IIc computers should be available for public access within <br /> the week. Two of the computers, along with the printer, will be <br /> placed in the Reference/Nonfiction area and the third computer will <br /> be in the Children's Room. <br /> <br /> <br />
