KANNAPOLIS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE <br /> Kannapolis, North Carolina <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> <br />IqHEREAS,the Cabarrus County Commissioners appointed the Cabarrus County <br /> Airport Commission, and appropriated funds to study the feasibility <br /> of a general aviation airport [or Cabarrus County and to <br /> recommend potential sites for this facility; and <br /> <br />9/HEREAS,the Cabarrus County Airport Commission has completed their study <br /> and the recommendations were presented to the Cabarrus County <br /> 'Commissioners at their October 6. 1986 meeting, and <br /> <br />lVHEREAS,the study revealed that a general aviation airport . can be <br /> constructed with only 2% of the cost to be born. by Cabarrus <br /> County, and 98% of the construction cost can be funded through <br /> FAA and N. C. Department of Transportation funds acquired from <br /> taxes placed on aviation fuel and air transportation, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS,the study revealed that a general aviation airport in Cabarrus <br /> County would be a profiti~ble venture and not cost taxpayers for <br /> opera tional expenses; and <br /> <br />lVHEREAS,Cabarrus County is the largest populated: county in the United' <br /> States without a gene~:al aviation airport; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS,air transportation by corporate and private aircraft is a growing <br /> trend in conducting business in the United States; and <br /> <br />lqHEREAS,diversification of the industrial base and recruiting new industries <br />and businesses is of highest priority with the Kannapolis Chamber <br />of Commerce and the Greater Cabarrus County Economic Development <br /> Corporation to provide job opportunities for our citizens and to <br /> increase the economic development growth of Cabarrus County; and <br /> <br />lqHEREAS,our county is in competition with every other county in the United <br /> States in efforts of recruiting new industry; and <br /> <br />~'VHEREAS,a survey conducted by the Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce <br /> revealed that 87.9% of its membership felt that a general aviaiton <br /> airport would be of economic benefit to Cabarrus County,and <br /> <br />IVHEREAS,this may be the last opportunity to build this needed facility for <br /> progressive growth in our county; <br /> <br /> <br />
