CABARRUS COUNTY
Department o[ Social Services
P.O. Box 668

Conco~, North Cstoll~ 280264)668

J~m~ F. Cook,
December 17, 1986 Direc~r

~MORANDUM

TO: Blair Bennett, County Finance Off~
FROM: Jim Cook, Social Service Director~(~
SUBJECT: Attached Budget Amendment Request

Attached is a budget emendmest request which would add $9090 in 100%
Federal funding to the Socia! Service budget for the Crisis Intervention
Program. I would like to ask that this amendment request be considered
by the Board of Co~issloners at its first January meeting.

We ~ere recently advised that Cabarrus County is being allocated an
additional $9090 in Crisis Intervention Progra~ funds. We had previously
been allncated $~8,178 for 1984-8~.

The Crisis Intervention Program ts a component of the Federal Low
Income Energy Assistance Program. It is desisned to provide help with
heating expenses to lo~ income families ~ho are experiencing a heating-
related emergency situation. Payments of up to $200 in any year can be
made to vendors in behalf of qualifying families to restore or prevent
interruption of home heating.

The additional allocation brin~ to $~7~2&8 the amount of funding auail-
able for 1984-85. During 1983-86, expenses of $48,0~5 were incurred in
providing help under this program to 279 households. Tke additional
funding will thus in all likelihood be needed this year.

Please advise me if I may provide additional information.

Thank you.
