DIRECTOR PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE 7o4t03~1221 <br /> HOM~ 704; 7~ 1~44 <br /> FOR IH~4EDIATE RELEASE August 25, 1982 <br /> <br /> Kannapolis, ~.C. -- Recreation, beautification and a public library received the <br /> most support .from the advisory committee of the Cannon task force for co.unity develop- <br /> ment following its first meeting with David H. 14urdock, chairman and chief executive <br /> officer of Cannon ;(ills Company, on August 19. <br /> 6hairm~n Joseph C. ~idenhour announced these results at a meeting of the task <br /> force hera today, an~ the group confirmed its support for these three co~unity goals. <br /> A sub-committee, or action group, will be appointed from the advisory committee to make <br /> plans and recomJ~endations on each goal. <br /> ~r. Hurdock, who serves as honorary 6hairman of the task forCe,oapproved the <br /> recon~endation of the task force and set up an operating grant of $50,000 for the task <br /> force to use in planning and implementing the initial stages of these programs. <br /> ~r. Ridenhour said the funds will be used primarily "t~ assist each sub-committee in <br /> getting the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible." <br /> He added: "We are deeply grateful to Hr. Nurdock for Cannon's generous contri- <br /> bution to the ~ork of the task force and the advisory com,~ittee. This is further <br /> evidence of his strong co,.~mitment to planning and developing a better quality of life <br /> in Kannapolis and this area for everyone." <br /> Nr. Ridenhour also announced at the task force meeting that two new projects -- <br /> have been approved and will get underway soon: <br /> Cannon is working with the State highway department to clean up and beautify <br /> the First street interchange on Cannon boulevard in Kannapolis. This will involve <br /> removing the kudzu jungle, planting shrubs and flowers and constructing sidewalks <br /> in some a~'eas. All work on highway right-of-.ay will require the approval and direc- <br /> tion of the State highway department landscape department. <br /> <br /> <br />
