CABARRUS COUNTY
.- :; - CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA 280'2~
~. ' '::' ' ' HE)I0 - ~

- TO: Board of Commissioners
~.:

· .... : : :,~,~,=;.~ :~

DATE: }larch 13, 1985'

RE: Demolition of Craig Building

Early in January I submitted to the Board of County Commissioners a
proposal for consideration of removal of the elevator in the Craig
Building in order to satisfy the requirements of State safety inspections.
At that time the Board requested that I try to elicit bids for the
removal of the elevator and to get informal quotations regarding the
demolition of the Craig Building itself.

The two items were presented to the Board of Commissioners in
February with quoted prices from four construction people for the
demolition of the building and a letter that was received from an
elevator company indicating that the elevator was of no salvageable use
to anyone and would not be an item that they would be interested in
purchasing. At that meeting I also indicated to the Board that contact
had been made to my office from a sporting goods distributor about the
possibility of leasing the Craig Building for an athletic goods store.
The Board instructed me to make contact back to the person and request a
specific proposal as to the utilization of the building, renovation, and
long term lease. Contact was made with the real estate agent representing
the athletic sporting goods company and instructions were given to them
to submit a proposal to me by March 12.

I did not receive a specific proposal; therefore, I recommend the
d~olition of the Craig Building and that the demolition award be made
to Richard E. Burrage Construction Company in the amount of $9,680 plos
$3,270 to place and compact approximately 850 cubic yards fill with a
cap of 6 inches of pit gravel. This would make the total award for the
demolition and backfilling of $12,950.
