m
Cabarrus County " "
Department of parks and Recreation

P.O. Box 707 Concord, N.C. 28025 Phone 704-786-74'11

Williom K. Cowon - Direclor

February 27, 1984

Ms. Grace Mynatt, President
Cabarrus Arts Council
23 Un,on St. N.
Concord, N.C. 2B025

Dear Ms. ~ynatt:

The accompanying request is a proposal by the Cabarrus County
Parks and Recreation Department to obtain additional funding for a
summer musical production bY the Cabarrus Youth Theatre. As noted
in the request, these funds will be used to hire professional con-
sultants to assist in creating and directing the production.

Although the program is currently funded by local tax dollars,
~lans are to establish a youth theatre association as a self-govern-
lng, s~=,-=.~r,~.~ng organization. Therefore, we feel that it is
essential to establish sources of outside funding at this time.

Future plans for program expansion include: dramas, broadway
musicals, a dance theatre, classes in creative dramatics, special
performances for senior citizens and activities for the mentally
and physically handicapped, It is also proposed that the theatre
function on a year-round basis as opposed to a summer-only format.

The Parks and Recreation Department is very pleased to be a
part of this outstanding program. I~e feel that with the full
support of the Cabarrus Arts CounCil and the Cabarrus community
at large, thb Cabarrus Youth Theatre can play an important role in
the cultural development of Cabarrus County. Thank you for your
consideration.

Sincerely,

Special Programs Supervisor
