' ~"~'~"~-- CABARRUS COUNTY
CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA 28025

MEMORANDUM

TO: Charles D. McGinnis/County Manager
FROM: Thomas B. Robinson/Planning Director~[~)~
SUBJECT: Clean Water Bond Monies for "Problem" Water Areas
DATE: March 16, 1984

Recently I found out that there was a limited amount of Clean Water Bond money
left for water projects. I called Ron Arnold wi th the Department of Human
Resources to verify and found that there is approximately $750,000 of recaptured
money available for water projects. Ron stated that the money will be used to
remedy problem or "hot spot" water areas rather than solely for water system
expansion. Applications for this money are due in by March 31, 1984 and will
be competitively ranked by severity of need.

In developing the $11,000,000 water system, I worked with Hareld Saylor
with the Department of Human Resources/Division of Health Services and B~b
Farris to identify failing and polluted water systems. Some of the worst
water problems (from a health standpoint) are found in the Colony, Colony II.,
and North Princeton Subdivisions and surrounding areas. These areas seem prime
candidates for this clean water bond money. Therefore, I would like your and
the Board of Commissioners authority to submit a clean water bond application
for these areas provided a feasible project can be developed. A resolution
authorizing the submission of this application is enclosed.

These areas are within the County WaGer Service District.

Enclosure
