McGiunls <br />Caharrus County Manager <br />Courthouse, Box ?07 <br />Concord, North Carolina 28025 <br /> <br />Dear Mr. McGinnis: <br /> <br /> This is to announce a series of informal meetings within the <br />Rocky River Basin, N. C., encompassing most of Cabarrus, Union, <br />and Stanly Counties, and portions of Anson, Rowan, and Iredell <br />Counties, to determine from local interests what water resource <br />needs and opportunities exist, and the extent and magnitude of <br />these needs. <br /> <br /> The Corps of Engineers, Wilmington bistrict, is beginning <br />studies of possible water resources development needs in this <br />basin to satisfy two Congressional Resolutions. One resolution~ <br />adopted November 14, 1979, by the Committee of Public Works and <br />Transportation, U. S. House of Representatives, requested that we <br />review earlier reports of the Yadkin-Pee Dee to determine the <br />advisability of modifying recommendations therein toward <br />"...development and maximin utilization of the water resources of <br />the basin." The later resolution, adopted September 23, 1982, by <br />the Committee on Public Works and Transportation, U. S. House of <br />Representatives, requested that we review earlier reports on the <br />Yadkin-Pee Dee River to "...determine what measures are necessary <br />and justified at this time to provide flood control, water supply, <br />hydroelectric power, and allied purposes in North Carolina, with <br />particular reference to multipurpose reservoirs on the Rocky <br />River." <br /> <br /> <br />
