I

North Carolina State University
SERVICE SchOOl of Agriculture and Li[e Sciences

Address re~y ~:
County Exte~lon Office
P, O. Box 387 Phone: 782-0212
Concord, NC 28026-0387
October 29, 1984

Mr. Charles D. McGinnis
Cabarrus County Manager
P. O. Box 707
Concord, NC 28026-0707

Dear Mr. McGinnis:

This is a request to fill the newly created position of horticultural agent. We have
interviewed extensively throughout the state and have a prospect for this position as
associate agricdltural extension agent for Cabarrus County. This person comes to us
well qualified, experienced, and highly recommended for this position.

Because we were able to find an experienced person, it will require more money than was
originally funded. The total amount of this request on an annual basis is $26,250.
This includes $21,000 salary, plus $5,250 to cover fringe benefits and part of travel
expenses. This person is presently employed and will not be available nntil January 1,
1985, when we would expect his emplo)~nent to begin with the North Carolina Agricultural
Extension Service.

The county commissioners approved $21,000 for this position, and since it will only be
used one-half of the year there will be adequate funds availab]e in th~s account during
this fiscal year. However, this does mean an additional amoent of money as a salary
item in the next year's budget.

This person comes to us well qualified to handle the position of horticultural agent
in Cabarrus County. He is highly recommended by people who have known or worked w~th
him outside the co~uLty, and by members of tile Cabarrus County Farmers Market group.
tie has extremely valuable experience that would help us in this important program.

We have made an offer to this person contingent upon adequate funding being provided
by Cebarrus County. I strongly recommend that this additional funding be approved and
this position be fil~led.

Please let me know at your earliest convenience of the action you take on this
recommendation.

Sincerely yours,
