A~~ CABARRUS COUNTY

~~/ : '. I Post office Box 707
cONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA 28025

TO: Charles 0. McGinnis/County ~lan~ger
FRO/i: Thomas 8. Robinson/Planning Director
DATE: Oecember ll, lg84
5UBdECT: Upcoming Con~nunit~ Oevelo~ent Block Gcant (CO8G) Application Oates

It's CDBG application time and I need direction from the Board of Commissioners
as to whether they want to submit an application and if so, under which category.

The North Carolina Oepartment of Natural Resources and Community Develo~ent has
tentatively set the following dates for receiving COBG applications for Economic
Development and Community Revitalization.

..... Economic Oev'elopment - Cycle 1 February 1, 1985 _

.,:. - Community Revitalization and Development Planning April 18, 1985

'- Economic ~evelopnent - Cycle a May 16, 1987 .:... .... ' ' ' '
Economic Oevelo~ent - Cycle 3 October l, lg85

Cabarrus County is eligible to receive up to $750,000 in Grant money. If we have an
application under consideration we can not submit another application where the total
Of the two applications exceeds $750,000. Notice of Grant award is to be made
within sixty {60) days of the application date. Therefore, if Cabarrus County
wanted to submit an economic development application in February, we could also
submit a £ommunity Revitalization project in April or another Econo~ic Development
project in May or October.

I am attaching two brief summaries outlining the major aspects of the Economic
Development and Community Revitalization programs. The county potentially has
projects that could be funded under each category. To develop an economic develop~
ment project, the county should advertise for prospectus projects. The Planning
Staff has identified a couple of prime community revitalization areas within the
county and I am sure the Commissioners can also think of potential areas as well.
What is needed now is direction from the Board as soon as possible on what type
of project to develop. If they choose economic development, I would like to
advertise very soon.

Attac~nents
