Sec, 4, Oestrnct~on or adoption of unredeemed animal get,orally. <br /> <br /> (a) If sn 5mpot~nded animal is ~ot redeemed by the owner within the pc~riod <br />prescribed in Section 3, it may be destroyed la a humane manner or shall become <br />the property of tbe animal shelter(s) and offered for adoption to any responsS- <br />ble adulc who 5s wSlling to co~q>ty with this ordSnance. It is recommended that <br />cylinder carbon monoxide gas rather than engSne produced carbon monoxide gas be <br />used in the destroying of unclaJmmd anSmals. Stroh animal may be adopEed or <br />pnrchased by the first such person who pays the adoptSon or purchase fee and <br />rabies vaccination fee. No rabies vaccSnation fee will be required for animals <br />sold to dealers licensed pursuant to the U. S. Department[ of Agricnltnre's <br />Animal Welfare Act. <br /> <br /> (b) The Animal Control Bepartme~t shall recommend that all adopted female <br />dogs and cats released from ~be aa~ma] shelter be spayed. <br /> <br /> (c) No animal which bas been impounded by reason of its being a suray, <br />unclaimed by its owner, shall be allowed to be adopted from the animal shelte~ <br />dnr~lg a per/od of emerge~cy rabies quarantine invoked pursnz~n[ <br /> <br />Section 7 of this ordinance~ except by special authorization of the Director of <br />Public llealch and tbe Animal Costrol Department. <br /> <br />Sec. 5. Procednre with respect to reden~tion or adoption of aaw~ccinated dog or <br />cat. <br /> <br /> (a) Unles~ proof of a current rabies vaccination can be furnished, every <br />person who eitber adopt~ or redeems a dog or cat at the an~ms] shelter wS]l be <br />given a "proof of rabies vaccination card" at the time of the redemptio[] or <br />adoption. This card wi].l be stamped wSth a date stating the maximas t5me <br /> <br />all. owed to take the dog or cat to the veterinarian of sach person's choice for <br />rabies vaccination. The time l.~mSC for dogs and csts four (4) months cad older <br />will be seventy-two (72) hours, with St~ndays alld holidays exclt~ded. For puppies <br />and kittens uader fot~r (z~) months, the time limSt will vsry according to their <br />age. <br /> <br /> (b) Tile "proof of rabies vaccJt~atSon card" will be completed and returned <br />to the animal sbelter by the veterinarian. If thSs card is not retarned to the <br />zmimal shelter within the time limit specified on the card, all animal control <br />officer will be dispatched to retrieve the dog or cat. <br /> <br /> (c) Payment for rabies vaccination provided for 5n tb~s sectSon will be <br />the responsibility of tbe person redeemJag or adot)tJag the aalmal. <br /> <br />Sec. 6. Suspected rabid a~lSmals not go be redeemed or sdol)ted. <br /> Notwithstanding a~y other provision of this article, animaJs 5spoon]dod <br /> <br />which appear to be snffering from rabies shall not be redeemed or adopted, bat <br />shall be dealt with in accord with Article II of this ordinance. <br /> <br /> <br />
