Information on previous terms served and whether the board member is a County Commissioner is provided because the wording of G.S. t08A-4, Term of appointment, states: "Each member of a county board of social services shall serve for a term of three years. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms. Notwithstanding the previous sentence, the limitation on consecutive terms does not apply if the member of the social services board was a member of the board of county commissioners at any time during the first two consecutive terms, and is a member of the board of county con~issioners at the time of reappointment." In summary, if a social services board member has serve~ tw~ consecutive terms and is a county commissioner on June 3~, 1983, that person may again be appointed. Nominations to be considered by the State Social Services Commission must be received by this office no later than~RCH 1, 1983, to meet the provisions of The Open Meetings Law which requires nominations to be announced in a public meeting before appointments are made. Nominations will be announced at the March 15, 1983 Social Services Commission meeting, and appointments will be made at the May 17, 1993 meeting.
