Post Office Box 707
Nodh Caro]imo Concord, NC 28025
2769~
Dear Mr. McGinnis:

In response to your letter of October 3, 1983, and the resolu-
tion of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners, this letter
is an affirmative response to the request for assistance in
evaluating the library needs in Cabarrus County.

O~$ic~of$~o~eUtwo~ I have recently visited Cabarrus county and it is apparent that
~dN~K~.O~t~ there is keen interest in improving public library service.
The assistance you requested is normally provided by the State
Library via its Public Library Development Section and Mrs.
Marion Johnson, Chief'of the PLD Section, will have primary
responsibility in carrying out this task.

As you ca~ imagine, giVen the new State Aid to Public Libraries
appropriation and changed formula, the PLD Section has a great
deal to do; however, I think that the evaluation of Cabarrus
County could begin sometime in November and I would hope could
be completed by the end of the year.

The State Library staff will, of course, want to work with you,
local elected officials, library trustees, Friends groups, and
Dan MacNeill, Directo~ of the Cannon Memorial Library in Concord.
We at the State Library look forward to cooperating with you on
this project and hope that it will result in the kind of public
library service Cabarrus County wants and needs.

sincerely, /

David ~.
