STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

JAMESB. HUNT, JR P. 0. Bo× 640
GOVERNOR Albemarle, N. C. 28001
November 2, 1983 DIVISIONOF HIGHWAYS
WILLIAM R. ROBERSON. JR.
SECRETARY

Mr, J. Harold Nash, Chairman
Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
P. O. Box 707
Concord, North Carolina 28025

Dear Mr. Nash:

Division Traffic Engineer Tom Thrower investigated
the intersection of 8R 1166 (Universal Street) and
SR 2001 (Ridge Avenue) in Kannapolis, on October 31,
1983.

The 'stop" sign visibility on the westbound approach
of Universal Street is restricted. We have installed
a "stop abead" sign and painted "stop" on the pavement
to emphasiZe the stop condition.

We are planning to paint "stop ahead" on pavement near
the existing "stop ahead" sign. However, one problem
still exists, Some traffic may be keying on the
flashing yellow lights at the railroad crossing or the
signal lights at US 29 A.

We will monitor the effect this improvement will have on
present conditions.

Please advise if you need additional information concern-
ing this matter.

Very truly yours,

t DAVID B. ROBERTS
DIVISION ENGINEER

DBR/TBT/ek
cc: Mr. L. T. Williams
