C. 28025

Re: Popular Tent Road Widening

Dear Charles:

When we met with the Commissioners they requested informa-
tion conceruing the estimated cost of improviug Poplar Tent Road.

We have prepared au estimate for widening approximate 2 ft.,
where needed, extend drainage, resurface along widening and paint
striping, which would cost approximatel~ $360,000. This does not
include additional shoulder widening and embankment construction
to support this widening, since we believe that we would still
be talking about a million dollar job. This estimate also does
not include any utility adjustments or the erection of guardrail.

It still appears to me that in considering any improvement
for Poplar Tent, utilizing Secondary Construction Funds allocated
to Cabarrus County, that we should consider a piecemeal job.
That is, trying to do some portion of the road from intersection
to intersection along the road.

We must remember that we should consider all elements of
needed work to the secondary system which we would point out to
be as follows:

(1) Paving of unpaved roads.

(2) Bridge replacement.

(3) Stabilization of unpaved roads.

(4) Property owners' participation paving requests.

(5) Improvements to existing paved roads to better
handle the increased traffic. (Poplar Tent Road would
fall in this category.
