.~' The Concerd-Kannapolis area, the geographic core of the watershed,
is rapidly becoming an area for more industrial£zation. The count~
has many of the requisite characteristics required to attract industry.
Its large size means a labor force sufficient for plants of 1,000 or
so employees should be readily available from the unemployed, and per~
sons looking for higher wages than those offered in textiles in nearbyz
counties such as Rowan, Stanly, and Mecklenburg. The county also
has an interstate highway, and is on the main line of a major railroad.

The recently adopted zoning ordinance designates the area from

NC 49 to 1-85 from Concord City limits to the Cabarrus County line as
an industrial area. The only £~dustrial developmental need in this
area is water and sewer. Availability of water could be a limiting
factor in locating industry having needs beyond sanitation.

EXISTING WATER FACILITIES AND SOURCES

There are currently seven (7) major water suppliers in Cabarrus
County which utilize six (6) surface water sources to meet their water
needs. Two of.the systems (China Grove and Harrisburg) utilize wells.
Table 1 shows the major water systems, and their sources of water.

-3-
