CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF C~,~.I~SSIONERS <br /> QUARTERLY REPORT <br /> NORTH CAROLINA DIVISION OF FOREST RESOURCES <br /> APRIL - HAY - JUNE 1982 <br /> <br /> FOREST ~,~INAGI~,IENT <br /> <br />Received t8 management requests, service 13 this quarter. ~lis consists of <br />examining woodland and making forest management plans, harvesting timber, <br />timber llmrking, thinni~ pine plantations, timber stand improvement, wildlife <br />improvement and site preparation for tree Planting. This involved 278 acres. <br /> <br />~e tree farm was established ~hich consists of approximately 100 acres. <br /> <br />~e-hundred-ten acres of pulPwood ~.~ere marked for thinnings. 'I'e~ acres of <br />saY, timber ~ere marked. Sixty-one acres ¥~ere thinned, ~.~hich cut 497 cords of <br />pulpwood, ~.;hich brought a~ut $i9,383 to !ando~mers and cutters from the sale <br />of pulp~-;O~. <br /> <br />~venty-nine acres ¥~ere harvested (sm~timber) ~.~hich cut 392,000 board feet of <br />saY, timber, bringing about $23,520 to landowners from the sale. Along with the <br />sawtimber, approximately 235 cords ~ere cut for fire wood, ~hicK brought aleut <br />$1,635. ~me fire %rood %.;as donated free in order to get an area cleared for <br />planting trees. <br /> <br />%.;o landoYmers have applied for cost-sharing assistance for site preparation <br />and tree planting this quarter. ~is consists of approximately 80 acres. <br /> <br />FIRE W~D <br /> <br />We have started locati~ areas ¥;here citizens of the county can cut fire %*~ood <br />for the c~ing winter. We have t~mee areas at the present and should have more <br />in the next few months. <br /> <br />INSECTS AND DISEASES <br /> <br />No ne%.~ spots of ~utberp Pine ~etle infestation have beeu reported this quarter. <br />~'bst of the old areas are not merchantable no%.;. <br /> <br />The pine sa¥~f!y that was present in April and ~hy did no lasting damage. <br />needles have started c~ni~ back at this time. <br /> <br />We have not had any reports on the Gypsy ~.bth so far. ?.~e have distributed ~04 <br />moth traps in the county. These ¥]ere placed ,~very four miles ab%mZ ~:~ajcr <br />and roads.
