Concord, ~orth Caro!i~
October 12, 1981

Mr. Charles McOi~nis, County Manager
Cabarrus County
P. O. Box 707
Concord, N.C. 28025

Dear Mr. McOinnis:

Effective October l, 1951, Mrs. Sylvia Smith was
elected Chairman of the Wursing Home Community Advisory
Committee:
Mrs. Sylvia Smith
Rt. 5, Box 18!
Concord, N, C. 28025
Tel. (home) 436-9?94'
(office) 786-7141

The Nuruing Home Community Advisory Committee has
been an active committee in this county since its
inception in January 1979. Committee members have a
real concern for ~he long-term care of the older adult
and in most cases have been regular in attendance at
Nursing Home visits, Committee has made a minimum of one
visit per quarter to each of our four Nursing Home with
individual members making more frequent visits.

We have had very few formal complaints, however our
committee has responded to questions and concerns of friends
and family members of patients. We have experienced a good
working relationship with administrators and staff. We feel
that the presence of this committee in the co%mty has had a
very positive effect in the facilities.

I have two concerns which I would like to recommend
that you and the commissioners consider in the future.

1. All present appointments expire December 31, 1982,
I recommend that terms in the future be staggereS.

2. In making appointments I think attention should
be given to not only appointing persons who are
concerned and qmalified in this area~ but also
being sure to have a person capable and willing
to serve as chairman. There are several meetings
during the year that the chairman should attend
as well as record keeping and reports that can
be time consuming.
-7
