Division <br /> {404) B8i-2391 <br /> <br /> ADDITIONAL FL~DOD INSURANCE COVERAGE NOW AVAII2%BLE .UNDER THE NATIONAL FLOOD <br /> INSURANCE PROGRAM. <br /> <br /> The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FE~A) announced today that effective <br /> 5/5/81 , Cabarrus County has been converted to the requla~ phase of the <br /> National Plood Insurance ~rogram. The full limits of flood insurance coverage <br /> are now avaailable to any property owner located within cabarrus County <br /> Coverage available on a single family resid~%tial structure, for example, <br /> has now be~n increased from a maximum of '~5,000 under the emergency program <br /> t~ a maximum of $185,000 under regular program status. Similar increases <br /> f~ other types of structures are also available. Tenants may also obtain <br /> additional coverage for their personal property against flood loss. <br /> <br /> According to Glenn C. Woodard. Jr., Director, Insurance and Mitigation <br /> Division of FE~A's Atlanta Regional Office, flood coverage may be writtel] <br /> by any licensed property 'and casualty insurance agent in the State of <br /> North Carolina . The National Flood Insurance Program, created by Congress <br /> in 1968, ~rovides owners of residential and small business properties with <br /> the only means of obtaining insurance against flood risk. Flood damages <br /> are not included in a general homeowners policy, ~qoodard advises. The <br /> premiums are based upon the location and/or elevation of a particular <br /> property in accordance with the Flood Insurance Rate Map, a copy of which <br /> · s available for public inspection from your local co--unity officials. <br /> <br /> The acceptance of Cabarrus County into the regular phase of the National <br /> Flood Insurance Program is a result of a recently completed flood insurance <br /> study by the Insurance and Mitigation Division and the subsequent adoption <br /> of Flood Plain Management Regulations b~ Cabarrus Cou~- The flood plain <br /> management efforts are designed to reduce flood damage potential by placing <br /> proper construction standards on new development in flood plains. <br /> <br /> For further information on insurance coverage contact your local insurance <br /> representative or telephone the regional office Insurance and Mitigation <br /> Division in Atlanta at (404) 881z2391. <br /> <br /> <br />
