Total acres <br />marked and designated for thinning or harvesting is 270. To~al acres thinned <br />is 26?, which cut 2,650 cords of pulpwood. This brought approximately $103,3~0 <br />back into ~he couflty to landowners and cutters. <br /> <br />Total acres harvested - ~68. This consists of c!eareutting, harvesting saw~imber, <br />pulpwood, and fire wood. There were &,040,000 boa~d feet , 722 cords cut, and <br />about 600 cords o£ fire wood cut. Total for the year is mbo'at $207,901. <br /> <br />Two hundred one acres were prepared for planting, which consists of bulldozing, <br />scalping, and fuelwood removal. Two hundred twenty acres were plaeted in Lob- <br />lolly pines. Nineteen acres of this was open land which needed no site pre-. <br />paration. <br /> <br />FIRE WOOD <br /> <br />We assisted abc'u% ~O citizens %o find places to out fire wood. <br /> <br />FOREST INSECTS AND DISEASES <br /> <br />We salvaged 31 spots of beetle-infested %rees~ which cut 599 cords and 184,000 <br />board feet of saw%imber. 'These trees were dying or dead and were sold fo~ <br />p,/lpwood and savtimber. Approximately $~4,330 was brought back into the county <br />from %his ~ale. <br /> <br />INF0~MATION ANDEDUCAT!0N <br /> <br />Twenty-two articles were placed in .newspapers this year. Articles were on <br />Smokey the Bear programs, woods, brush, and grass fires~ the'ban on burning, <br />and the lifting o£. the ban. O~her articles were on cut%lng £ire wood, beetles, <br />tree seedlings, the new Assistant County Ranger, FAA Forestry contest~ and <br />forestry progrOms. <br /> <br />We eon%acted ~dio stations seven times for fire prevention purposes. <br /> <br />We placed displays on £orsstry and fire control in the Courthouse and County <br />Building this year. <br /> <br />We made visits t~ five county schools, grades two through six. <br /> <br />We attended meetings with the SOS, SWCD supervisors, Home~Economics Extension <br />Servico~ and the ASCS. <br /> <br />I attended two schools at Ltnville Training Facility in November and December, <br />1980. We worked with Mr. Price and SCS with two schools. <br /> <br /> <br />
