CABARRUS COUNTY JAIL HEALTH PROGRAM PLAN <br /> RSVISEO SEPT[~35R 24, 1981 <br /> <br />GOAL: To ~intain the health and well-being of prisoners incarcerated <br /> in the Cabarrus County Jail. <br /> <br />OBJECTIVES: 1. Protect the health and welfare of the prisoners and to avoid <br /> the spread of cc~tagious disease; <br /> <br /> 2. Provide for medical supervision of prisoners and emergency <br /> medical care for prisoners to the extent necessary for their <br /> health and welfare; <br /> <br /> 3. Provide 'for the detection, examination and treatment of <br /> prisoners who are infected with tuberculosis or venereal <br /> diseases. <br /> <br />This plan has been developed in consultation with the sheritf, health director, <br />county manager, and representatives of the cOUnty medical society. By common <br />agreement, the folic~.ing health.care services will be afforded prisoners <br />incarcerated in the Cabarrus County Jail: <br /> <br /> 9. Prisoners with health complaints or health pr~i~lems will be seen by a <br /> health de0artment nurse, physician, or at ~he Cabarrus Memorial Hospital <br /> Emergency Rock.. <br /> <br /> 2. On admission, all Prisoners will be screened for health problems utiliz- <br /> ing the Receiving Screening Form recommended by the American Medical <br /> Associatior, and the North Carolina Medical Society. Where possible, <br /> this will be done by an E...~T trained jailer. Where eppro>riate, referrals <br /> ~ill be made or, the basis of this screening. <br /> <br /> 3. Screening clinics, by a health department nurse, will be held for two (2) <br /> hours, twice weekly, for prisoners with health problems. This nurse will <br /> be a part~ti~e emploffee of the health department, whose sole responsibility <br /> will be jail health screenings· This nurse will re,er, to the H & M <br /> Medical Clinic or hospital emergency roam, any problem reouiring physician <br /> examination or treatment. <br /> <br /> 4. The H & M Medical Clinic will provide ~enty-four (24) hour physician backup <br /> to the jail for referral, consultation and treatment purposes. <br /> <br /> 5. As soon as possible, and on a continuing ~asis thereafter, the jail will <br /> have a trained E!,ff .iailer available on a ~wenty-four (24) hour basis to <br /> conduc~ routine health screening o~ pri~ohers. <br /> <br /> I <br /> <br /> <br />
