Hinson, Chairman, Region F .~S Advisory Council

RE: E~..[S Hutual Aid Response Plan for Region F

On September 22, 1981, the COG staff initiated a surprise "paper" drill of the
%egionTs EMS mutual aid response plan at the reques~ of your local ~.[S directors.
The scenario for the drill included a school bus accident in ~t. Pleasant, with
some twelve to fifteen seriously-injured children and a number with lesser
injuries. Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Rowan, and Stanly Counties participated in the
drill.

On behalf of the Region F E~S Advisory Council, I'd like to congratulate tEese
counties for their excellent response to this drill. The Cabarrus Emergency
Services Director was notified of the "event" at 9:44 a.m.; within ten minutes,
he had notified the appropriate officials in surrounding counties and received
commitments of sixteen ambulances. An additional three ambulances were committed
in the next fifteen minutes.

We are now in the process of updating our mutual aid response plan to account for
the one or two minor difficulties encountered, and will test the plan in the
remaining four counties this winter. We are confident that they will perform
successfully.

A~atn, I want to congratulate you and your emergency se~;ices directors for their
participation in the drill, and for their help in ~reparing and updating the
mutual aid response plan. We believe that their contributions will significantly
improve regional response to a mass-casualty situation.

P~/am

CABARRUS COUNTY concord harrisburg mount pleasant GASTON COUNTY belmont bessemer cily cherty~ille cremation

Iroulman LINCOLN COUNTY li~lcolnton MECKLENBURG COUNTY charlotte cor~lelius huntemvi[le matlhews pinevllle

ROWAN COUNTY china grove failh grantte quarry landis salisbury spencer STANLY COUNTY albemarle locust
