STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

Albemarle, N, C.
JAMESB. HUNT, JR. January 2, 1980
GOVERNOR DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS
THOMAS W, BRADSHAW. JR
SECRETARY

Mr. Charles McGinnis, County Manager
Cabarrus County
P. O. Box 707
Concord, North Carolina 28025

Dear Mr. McGinnis:

Your request of December 14, 1979 to District Engineer
T. L. Patterson that a uniform 45 mph speed.limit be
established on Pitts School Road (SR 1305) west of US
29 has been referred to this office for consideration.

Our field investigation of this request revealed that
development on those sections of this road now posted
for 55 mph is insufficient for a reduced speed limit,
especially that section west of SR 1431. Considerable
development exists from US 29 westward to the beginning
of the existing 45 mph zone. However, this development
is considered to be less than the minimum 60% normally
required to warrant a speed reduction to 45 mph.

Should significant additional development occur on this
road your request will be reconsidered.

Please advise if you desire additional information concern-
ing this matter, or if we may be of ' / in others
ass[stance .

Very tru'ly yours,-~

DAVID B. ROBERTS
DIVISION ENGINEER

SBS:ek ~ .....
cc: Mr. T. L. Patterson
Mr. S. B. Smith ~ ~k_~dvo~_~,~~'~' ~d~ ~ ~/t~
