McConnell American Legion Post 51 has distinguished itself as a leader in <br />the National Arnerlean Legion's Law and O~der Commission through its annual law and order ban- <br />quet featuring top state and national speakers, authorities in the field of law enforcement and <br />Criminal justice; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on March 28, 19~0 former U.S. Congressman Wm. Jennings Bryan Dom, will keynote <br />the 19~0 Law and Order Banquet at Fred Y. McC0nnell American Legion Post 51; and <br /> <br />w~REAS, the banquet will feature presentation of law enforcement officer of the year awards to <br />officers of the Kannapolis and Concord police departments, Cabarrns Sheriff's Department, Cabar- <br />run Unit of the State Highway Patrol and the local police auxiliary selected by their co-workers; <br />and the Robert Eury Memorial Award, given annually to a law enforcement officer ~,ith 20 years of <br />more service; and <br /> <br />wId~iREAS, this year state and national American Legion medals of valor will be presented to two <br />High Point women who aided m the investigation of the murder of an area high school homecoming <br />queen, thus adding to the significance of the awards dinner; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, American Legion Post 51 has invited the general public, as well as state and national <br />legion leaders, law enforcement officers, court and criminal ]utice personnel and local government <br />and political leaders to the event; and <br /> <br />wliIiREAS, Chief District Judge Robert L. Warren will present the distinguished service awards, <br />No/ih Carolina State Commander RaySmith of Bensen will present the state medal of valor and the <br />national award will be presented by either National Vice Commander Max Robinson of Jackson- <br />ville, N.C., or National Vice Commander Roy Stone of South Carolina; and <br /> <br />Wltl!;REAS, it is the duty and responsibility of every citizen to obey the law and to honor our law en- <br />fo/'cement officers; and it is a stated purpose of The American Legion in its preamble to support <br />law enforcement and inelucate a sense of security through this support and fostering of community <br />and individual respect for the untiring efforts of the local police, sheriff's deputies, auxiliary of- <br />ricers and state highway patrolmen; and <br /> <br />w~ti!;REAS, all Concord and Cabarrns County residents ought to honor those law enforcement of- <br />fleers who have the responsibility of keeping our streets and homes safe every day; <br /> <br />I THi~REFORE DO PROCLAIM that Marcl; 28, 19~0 be hereby designated American Legion Law <br />Enforcement Day in Caharrus County, and call on all citizens to participate in honoring all law en- <br />forcement officers. <br /> <br />Signed this 20th day of February, in the year nineteen hundred and eighty, A.D. <br /> <br /> TROY R.
