This consists of <br />forest m~_nagement plans made or revised~, site preparation for pl~_n_ting~ pl~_uting <br />of tree seedlings, pulpwood marking, thi.~_uing pine st~uds, and harvesting of <br />sa~.ALmbar. A total of 806 acres was involved. <br /> <br />Eighty-three acres of Loblolly pine plantation was marked to be thinned and <br />sold for pt~pwood. <br /> <br />One h~u~dred eighty-six acres were tl~m~ed, ~M_th approximately 2,338 cords cut <br />mud sold to Cata~.foa Timber Compm~y. This brought about ~8~,,168 to lsndow~.ers <br />from the sale of pulpwood. <br /> <br />For sawtLmbar~ 1,172~.000 board feet were harvested from 230 acres. This brought <br />approximately $86,685 to ls_~do~¢ners from the sale of sa~Lmbar. <br /> <br />Twenty-nine acres of cutover woodland was prepared to 'be plmuted in Loblolly <br />pines this ~nter. Have tb~'ee more requests for site prepo-~ation ~.ork to be <br />done. <br /> <br />SHADE TPJ~ES <br /> <br />Serviced 24. requests from landom~.ers who called concerning shade tree problems. <br />iu many eases, the landor.ruer was advised how to fartilize~ plar. t, and spray if <br />needed. Others needed advice about insects, diseased trees~ and trees dying <br />from hot, dry summer weather. <br /> <br />FIRE WOOD <br /> <br />Assisted 12 lando~*ners in getting fire wood to burn this ~,~ntar. Some of this <br />wood was free and some was sold by truck lo~~d. I mu trying to help as many as <br />possible to get fire wood. <br /> <br />FOREST ~.~SECTS ~ND DISEASES <br /> <br />A survey flight was made on July 9, 1980 to plot Southern Pine Beetle infestations <br />on aerial photographs. We rotund 223 spots in Cabarrus Cou:~ty. Requests from <br />lando:~ners smd spots found on the gro~-ud total 237 to date. The hot, dry sum~mer <br />has increased the n~nber of spots ~ud the acres killed. <br /> <br /> <br />
