Cook Chairman Cabarrus County Board of Co~missioners Route 3, Old Salisbury Road Concord, North Carolina 28025 Dear Chairma~ Cookz Governor Hunt, the Board of Transportation and ! invite you to attend and participate in a public meeting to update the Highway Improvement element of our Transportation Improvement Program. The meeting for your area is scheduled to be held in Concord, Wednesday, J~ne 13, in the Central Cabarrus High School at 2:00 p.m; The public meetings this year will give local governments and citizens an opportunity to emphasize the importance and priority of Improvement projects that are currently in our Highway Improvement Program. We also want to bring you up to date on the projects and to present to you our revenue and cost of construction summaries. I am sure you understand the severe impact inflation has had on our transportation program. Last year, in particular, the cost of inflation exceeded 20~. The Governor will soon appoint a Blue ~ibbon Con~it~ee to address the fiscal needs and pro~rams of our Department. We still believe our Program is a positive approach to schedul- ing highway improvements. To assist us in keeping it viable and responsive, we are soliciting your very careful review of projects already in the Program and asking that you share with us the priority order as you see the additional needs in your area. Our ability to add new projects will be limited this year. We do, however, solicit your input so that the end result will in turn be the very best Transportation Improve~ent Program possible.
