STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

JAMESB. HUNT. JR. Albemarle, N. C. 28001
DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS
GOVERNOR June 28, 1979
THOMAS W. B RADSHAW, J R.
SECRETARY

Mr. Charlie McOinnis
Cabarrus County Manager
Cabarrus County Courthouse
Concord, NC 28025

Dear Mr. McGinnis:

This letter is to confirm our telephone eonversa~ion
of yesterday concerning secondary road improvements in
C~rrus County.

Last year we presented to the County Commissioners and
received a concurring resolution for improving SR 2635
(Old Airport Road) from US 601 to SR 2636, a distance of 1.6
miles. The scope of the project was to widen the existing
pavement from 17 to 22'. Our efforts to secure the right
of way were unsuccessful; however, due to the unsafe inter-
section at SR 26~3 t~e have proceeded with condemnation of
one property involved and have reduced the scope of the work
to improve the intersection only, for school bus safety.
After making this adjustment, we will have between $50~000
and ~60,000 remaining for reallooation. The reason we do
cot ~no~ exactly what fun6s might be remaining is due t~ the
high ~oltage transmission line which must be adjusted at our
expense and the fact that all the. work is not complete in the
intersection.

You may be aware of the impact that the Phillip Morris
improvement has had in the traffic pattern in the area of
Union Cemetery Road, Roberta Mill Road and Roberta Church
Road. Since the closing of the Wolf Meadow School Road there
is increased traffic, both public and schoo~ busse~ on Roberta
Church Road (SR 1310). We have undertaken a project to improve
the ditches and shoulders on this road in our regular maintenance
