Human Services Activities <br /> <br />Family Plannin§ <br />The family planning staff has been working with the State Office on the transition <br />to DHR regions, and has been assisting the county programs in gearing up for the <br />"fee for service" system. Also worked with Gaston County to try to cover their <br />$8,710 deficit for the past year~ Negotiations with other Region F counties re- <br />sulted in voluntary budget reductions of $3,300 to help Gaston. The remainder <br />shall come from their state escrow account. A four part slide presentation on <br />the Family Planning program, is available through the R~gional Advisory Co~ttee. <br />The series explains the organization and purpose of the program, and how con- <br />sumers can and should be involved. <br /> <br />~npower <br />The CETA Title II-B program allocations for each county were completed as part 2 <br />of the FFY 1980 Annual CETA Plan and adopted by the Regional Employment and <br />Training Advisory Council (see attached). The original recommendation was based <br />on the county need analysis and the 1979 manpower evaluation results. M~npowar <br />operators were asked to submit a pre-proposal prior [o the final decision. <br />County manpower operators will be invited to apply for the Funds July 9, with <br />proposals due July 27. If the county would like to ask questions or offer sug- <br />gestions prior to the evaluation of the proposals received, please contact Chuck <br />Chorak prior to the 27th of July. <br /> <br />A meeting with officials of the Department of Community Employment will be held <br />July 30th, to discuss general CET^ concerns or problems felt by the Regional <br />Advisory Corm~ittee members. If county officials or staff have issues they would <br />lika addressed or would like Eo attend: please notify-Leon Miller at Centralina. <br /> <br />Agin~ <br />The 1979 NC General Assembly has approved a $300,000 special projects appropriation <br />to the NC Division of Aging to fund additional or expanded in-home services pro- <br />grams for fiscal year 1980. A project may receive up to $30,000 in state funds <br />over ~ twelve month funding period, which mus~ be matched on a 90/10 basis. <br />Beginning date for projects will be October 1, 1979. Letters of intent are ~o be <br />submitted to our office no later than July 16th. <br /> <br />$50,000 has been earmarked for senior center development in our region. Infor- <br />mation on pre-applications will be released within the next two months. <br /> <br />The Annual Area Plan on Aging is right on schedule for completion and submission <br />to the NC Division of Aging by July 30, 1979. A public hearing on the Plan is <br />tentatively scheduled for the 27th of July. <br /> <br />The Title V, Senior Community Service Employment Program is scheduled to begin <br />under the direction of Centralina on August 1, 1979. <br /> <br />This is actually a continuation of existing projects having 54 part-time employ- <br />ment slots for 55+ low income individuals. All slots are currently occupied. <br /> <br />Consolidation of aging programs is a topic we will want to pursue in September <br />after things have settled do~.
