F~%IILY'PLANNING <br /> ADVISORY COUNCILS INT~RPRESATIONS <br /> <br /> The general function of a family'~lann~ng advisory council is to assist in <br /> s~tting goals, establish priorities, determine poli~ies, develop plans, coordinate <br /> services, and to evaluate and review programs. <br /> <br /> Family planning programs at the State and Regional level% are mandated to have <br /> advisory coUncils. C~un~¥.advisory councils or Patient Advisory Councils are en- <br /> couraged but not mandated by Health, HduCation and SYelfare. Council membership must <br /> consisz Of S1% consumers. <br /> Definitions: <br /> <br /> . A consumer is anyonerDceivinK services from a family planning project which <br /> issubsidized by government funds (project employees excluded) <br /> <br /> 2. A potential Consumer is anyone who i~ in need ~f and/or eligible to receive <br /> <br /> government subsidized family planning projector who in the <br /> services <br /> from <br /> <br /> future becomes eligible to receive Services according to state law or federal <br /> \ government <br /> ~. A consumer representative is anyone who is selected by consumers to represent <br /> <br /> them. <br /> <br /> Cons~uers can represent: <br /> <br /> 1. The handicapped <br /> <br /> 2. ~hite low-income <br /> <br /> 5. Non white low-income <br /> <br /> 4. Teenagers (male and female} <br /> <br /> S. College Students <br /> <br /> 6. Newlyweds <br /> <br /> 7. Ail other economic classes and races <br /> <br /> <br />
