COG #78-140 Air/Ground Communications <br /> <br /> Le~islative and Grants Activities - <br /> <br />-Responded to a request from Rockland Sanitary District,.on grant information <br />for extending lines in system. <br /> <br /> Public Safety Activities <br /> <br /> -Attended the Cabarrus Anti-Auto Theft regional meeting. <br /> -Met with Terry Black, Cabarrus County Crime Prevention Officer, to assist ic <br /> the preparation of a final progress report, <br /> -Assisted Charles McGinnis in 8rranging a mseting with ~CC Staff to discuss the <br /> possibility of 911 Communications in Cabarrus County. <br /> -Assisted in the preparation of ~ Governor's Highway Safety Program need state- <br /> ment for Harrisburg Rescue. <br /> <br /> Human Services Activities <br /> <br /> General <br /> Human Service or social programs have traditionally been difficult to relate well <br /> to local government. This was partly due to ~he number'of different county <br /> agencies directly involved in such programs, and partly to the relatively lower <br /> priority of social services to local governments. <br /> Recent trends have begun to put local government on the spot where social services <br /> are concerned. People are demanding more services and at the same time are de- <br /> manding less taxes to provide them. In light of these pressures on local govern- <br /> ment, the COG Human Services staff needs to be specially sensitive to planning and <br /> coordinating their efforts to match the concerns of county government. <br /> <br /> <br />
