Charles McGinnis, County Manager <br /> <br /> FROM: The Cabarrus County Recreation Commission <br /> Mr. William K. Cowan, Director <br /> <br /> REF: Appointment of New Board Members to the Cabarrus County Recreation Cemmission <br /> <br /> We request that the Board of County Commissioners at their regular meeting on January <br /> 6, 1977 revise Section II of the Ordinance to create a Recreation Co~raission and to <br /> allow )wo (2) additional members to serve on the Cabarrus County Recreation Commission. <br /> The present ordinance allows fiv~ (5) members to represent the citizens of Cabarrus <br /> County. We feel that the increased representation will allow the board to have a <br /> broader representation and will better represent the views and opinions of the entire <br /> county. <br /> <br /> SECTION II of the present ordinance reads as follows: <br /> <br /> "The Recreation Commission shall be appointed by the governing body of the <br /> unit and shall consist of five (5) members. The governing body shall appoint <br /> one (1) member for a term~--(l) year; t~o (2) members for a term of ~wo (2) <br /> years and t. w o~members fo~-~-~:m of three--years. Upon the expiration of <br /> their original terms of office each succee 1-~erm shall be for three (3) years <br /> and until their successors qualify for office. Vacancies in the ~ <br /> conu~ission shall be filled for the unexpired term by appointment of the governing <br /> body of the unit. The members shall serve without compensation." <br /> <br />~e hereby request by vote of the Recreation Commission that the ordinance bi~ revised to <br />read as follows: <br /> <br /> 'The Recreation Commi3sion shall be appointed by the governing body of the unit <br /> and shall consist of seven (7) members. The governing body shall appoint t~[o (2) <br /> members for a term of one~_year; two (2) members for a term of two (2~[ years <br /> and three (3) members for a term of t~3) years. Upon the expiration of their <br /> orig~nl~] terms of office each succee~r~g term shall be fo~'th~(3) years and <br /> until their successors qualify for office. Vacancies in thor commission <br /> shall be filled for the unexpired term by appointment of the governing body of <br /> the unit. The members shall serve withou, compensation.' <br /> <br />We hereby recommend by a vote of the Recreation Commission that the Board of County <br />Commissioners appoint the following persons to serve on the Recreation Commission. <br /> <br /> Mr. James G. Eaves, Jr., Route #l, Midland, North Carolina <br /> <br />MC. Eaves has been recommended to fill the unexpired term of Mr. Phillip G. Carroll <br />whol resigned October 18, 1976. gr.
