Buddy Wilson of the Charlotte Fire Department ~as the
fi~structor of a class for the Cabarrus County Fire Investigation
Team. During the class, several abandoned h~mes were burned and team
members were given ]the task of determining how each ~as started.

The second clgss, taught by Bob Wilson of the Guilford College
Fire Department, was to instruct firs departments how to increase -
the amount of water available at a fire. This is don~ by quick dump
tankers with- drop tanks. The class ended with a water shuttle
s~mulation where five fire departments w~re used %o maintain a flow
of 500 gallons of water per minute for one houri.

A safe~y,.suggestion for the public: Fire and smoke detectors are
proven life savers which provide early warning in case of fire. Early
warning equipment should be ~nstalled in every ho~e to give the occupants
the best possible chance of escape should a fire occur.
The National Fire Protection Association reca~nends that one smoke
alarm be located in each separate sleeping area and at the head of each
s%aim~.~ab, to an occupied area. Suitable detectors can be obtained locally
for varying prices, but should Jlways carry the Unde~vriters Label and/or
the Factory ~Zutual Seal of Approval.

Submitted by:

William O. ~-cha~ds
f~pril 2% 1977
