GABARRUS COUNTY Post Office Box 707 CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA 28025 MEMORANDUM TO: Charles McGinnis/County Manager FROM: Frank Roberts/Community Development Coordinator SUBJECT: Report for the month of May, 1977 DATE: May 31, 1977' ACTIVITIES: The Cabarrus County Community Development Program has currently received sixty applicati6ns for rehabilitation. Of these, fifty-eight have been verified with forty-four applications being approved and fourteen plac'ed on a waiting list, Thirty- six bids have been awarded for a total rehabilitation cost of $206,201.04. Consnruction has begun on fifteen homes and two have had all remodeling work completed and inspections made. The lot clearance and demolition portion of the program should be completed in July. Currently thirteen lots have been awarded to contractors, for clearance, and work has begun on eleven and completed on five. One lot remains to be put out to bid. Thirteen demolition bids have been awarded with work progressing on seven and completed on six. The total amount for lot'clearance and demolition con~itted to date is ~5,136.00~ This is a total of $213,065.04 for rehabilitation, lot clearance and demolition. The average cost, per home, for rehabi%itation is currently $5~888,60, with a high of $8,415.00 and a low of $635.00. Based on the current available funds ($9,998.96) only two of the remain- ing ten. applications will receive work. If the budget amendment request to H.U.D. of $46,800.00 is approved this will give us $56,798.96 to finish out the program. Because of the process of a formal budget amendment request, tbe final rehabilitation bids will probably not be let until July. This could possibly delay the remodeling segment of the program by one month. A delay in the opening of the water and sewer system by the Kannapolis Sanitary District has occurred in the constrdction phase. This will delay the tap-on work that is to be done for each applicant's home and will possibly delay the street pavement process. We are tyring to remedy both problems as expeditiously as possible.
