The Cabarrus County Commissioners met at their regular monthly meeting on March 4, 1963 at <br /> <br />10:OO ~ M at the Courthouse with the following members present: <br /> <br /> Chairman: Frank James <br /> <br /> Commissioners: McNeil Petrea, Frank McCray, M. Smoot Lyles <br /> <br /> ~bsent~ Oren Hill <br /> <br /> Chairman, James called.meeting to order and Rev. A. K. Dudley led in prayer. The minutes <br />of the last meeting were read and approved. Mayor J. G. McCachern met with the board to discUSs <br />a full time Civil Defens~ Director. He requested one or more commissioners to go with the city <br />officials to Raleigh, Friday, March 8, 1963. Raleigh will assume ½ the cost for the Civil <br />Defense program. <br /> <br /> The Commissioners. authorized J. Ray Allen, county agent, to hire a local man to help a <br />Federal veterinarian inspect cattle for Bangs disease and tuberculosis. This is a 3 year spot <br />check. Approximate salary for the helper is $900. <br /> <br /> There was discussion of a county manager, also opening of the Winecoff cannery, but no <br />decision reached at this time. <br /> <br /> Motion by Frank McCray, seconded by Smoot Lyles to appoint McNeil Petrea Fire Commissioner. <br /> <br /> Discussion of a County Zoning Board. Chairman James requested Mr. Beckerdite to check and <br />see if this would take an act of legislature and report next meeting. <br /> <br /> J. Lee Pharr requested a license from the commissioners to begin garbage collections in <br />Harrisburg. Request granted. <br /> <br /> Bill Mills of the C & M Ambulance Service requested help from the county to continue this <br />service. The board requested Mr. Beckerdite to draw a resolution and give to Clyde Propst and <br />Dwight Quinn to try and get a law passed to enable the ambulance service to collect their bills. <br /> <br /> Motion by Smoot Lyles, seconded by McNeil Petrea that the following road petitions be <br /> <br /> approved: ~ <br /> Kansas St.---Request for Addition <br /> <br /> Road 2434-Sis Carter Road--Request for Surface Treatment <br /> <br /> Road 2442--Request for Surface Treatment <br /> <br /> Road 1440--Cline Rd.--Request for Surface Treatment <br /> <br /> <br />
